If you ever have a question about any music theory or history subject, you can count on Mr. Holland knowing the answer.  His experienced résumé reflects on his vast knowledge of numerous genres of music.  From age 8, Holland started a journey through music that ended him up where he is now.  At 8, he started playing the piano, in 7th grade, began playing the trumpet.  Through the piano, Holland fell in love with classical music, and through the trumpet, he fell in love with jazz.  In frequently attended music camps at Purdue, Holland thought, "maybe this is what I'm best at."

Mr. Holland in the Butler BandMr. Holland attended a large suburban school in St. Louis, then moved to Tipton, attending high school there for two years and graduating in 1981.  At Butler, Holland graduated in 84, where he was active in the Butler Jazz Band, played in the orchestra pit for "Annie" at Starlight Musicals in Indianpolis, and was a manager for 2 years for a swing band that "got me into incredible places."

Before coming to Knightstown, Mr. Holland became temporary director for the Lebanon High School Band in 1985, Assistant High School Band and Choir Director at North Putnam High School from 1985 to 86, and Middle School director at Keystone (now Southport) Middle School from 1986-89.

Some of Mr. Holland's proudest accomplishments are the band's attendance at the Indianapolis 500 in 1995, organized band trips to Chicago, St. Louis, Mackinac Island, and Cleveland, and a first place ISSMA concert band in 1994 and 1995.

For anyone who wants to start in music or make music a career, Holland suggests attending music camps, getting a private teacher for personal instruction, and attending various concerts.  Mr. Holland would surely agree that music is a lifelong gift, a valuable gift if given plenty of attention.
