Assignment 5

In the LeafLab, choose tomato and set the CO2 level to the default value of 350 ppm, gas flow to medium, and the light filter to white. Set temperature to 15°C and measure photosynthesis for light values beginning at 0 mmol/m2/s and increasing by 200 mmol/m2/s until you reach maximum light intensity of 2000 (mol/m2/s. Repeat this experiment for temperature values of 20°C, 25°C, and 30°C. On the same plot, fit curves of P versus light intensity to the data for each of the four temperatures, then answer the following questions.
1 .       What effects does temperature have on the rate of photosynthesis in tomato leaves?

2 .       How might these effects be different in a C4 plant such as corn?

3 .       Develop a testable hypothesis to explain the influence of temperature on photosynthesis in corn, and conduct experiments to confirm or refute your hypothesis.
