Professional activities I've taught high school biology since 1977. For much of my career I have taught in small, rural schools but for the past 8 years I have taught dual-credit biology (students can opt for credit from the local community college) in a rapidly growing, suburban district. Much of my efforts in teaching reform are concentrated on providing authentic research experiences for all biology students. I am the co-founder of the Monarch Watch, which is a collaborative effort to study the biology of the monarch migration phenomenon. The collaboration involves students, teachers and researchers linked electronically to monitor the fall migration.

A major concern of mine is developing appropriate technological applications in biology and science education.

I'm an active member of the National Association of Biology Teachers and the National Science Teachers Association. Recently I've joined the Association for Biological Laboratory Education (ABLE).
